Biography
Jawahar L. Mehta is a Director, Molecular cardiology and Professor of Medicine and Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, AR. He is member of prestigious organizations like ASCI and AAP, and received numerous awards-such as the International Pericle d’Oro Prize from University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro, Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Cardiology and the Dean’s Distinguished Scholar Award. He serves on the editorial boards of several cardiology, physiology and pharmacology journals. He has published more than 12 papers, abstracts and book chapters.

Biography
Dr Karpawich completed his Masters in Science degree from The University of Detroit and his Medical Degree from Hahnemann/Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. His postdoctoral Residency in Pediatrics at The Children's Medical Center, University of Texas (Dallas), and Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor University (Houston). He founded and is Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Program at the Children's Hospital of Michigan and Professor of Pediatric Medicine, Wayne State University School of Medicine (Detroit). He has published over 200 scientific papers, textbook chapters and textbooks typically in the field of cardiac electrophysiology, pacing and heart failure management both in children and adults with congenital heart disease, and is on the editorial staff of several internationally-recognized medical journals.

Biography
James T. Willerson, MD, FACC, is the President, Director of Cardiology Research, and Co-Director of the Cullen Cardiovascular Research Laboratories at the Texas Heart® Institute (THI) at CHI St. Luke’s Health-Baylor St. Luke’s. He served as President of The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston from 2001-2008, and he recently retired as the Edward Randall III Professor of Internal Medicine at The UT Medical School at Houston. He holds the Dunn Chair in Cardiology Research at THI, the Willerson/O'Quinn Chair at THI, the James T. Willerson, MD Distinguished Chair in Cardiovascular Diseases at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and has a swimming scholarship named in his honor at The University of Texas at Austin.

Detection and treatment of unstable atherosclerotic plaques, and the discovery of the genes and abnormal proteins responsible for cardiovascular disease.
