About City
The City of Las Vegas often known simply as Vegas, it is the 29th-most populated city in the United States, the most populated city in the state of Nevada, and the county seat of Clark County. The city anchors the Las Vegas Valley metropolitan area and also the largest city within the greater Mojave Desert. Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city known primarily for its shopping, gambling, fine dining, entertainment, and nightlife. It is the leading financial, commercial, and cultural center for Nevada. The city bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, and is famous for its mega casino–hotels and associated activities. It is a top three destination in the United States for business meetings and a global leader in the hospitality industry.
The main center of gambling and entertainment industry is located right here on the Las Vegas Strip, besides this city limits itself in surroundings with the communities of Paradise and Winchester in Clark County. There are many largest and most notable casinos and buildings situated in this city. In past recent years many new attractions have begun to emerge with already existing attraction like casinos and hotels in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas was settled in 1905 and officially incorporated in 1911. Around the of 20th century, it was the most populated American city founded within that century. There are several museums in this city, some of them are listed here: the Neon Museum (the location for many of the historical signs from Las Vegas). The Mob Museum, the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, the DISCOVERY Children's Museum, the Nevada State Museum and the Old Las Vegas Mormon State Historic Park.
Most of the casinos which are in downtown area are located on the Fremont Street Experience, The Stratosphere being one of the exceptions. Fremont East, which is adjacent to the Fremont Street Experience, was granted so many variances to allow bars to be closer together, similar to the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, the goal being to attract a different demographic than the Strip attracts. The city is also having one more center of attraction that is an extensive Downtown Arts District, which hosts number of galleries and events including the annual Las Vegas Film Festival. In Las Vegas also the "First Friday" is a monthly celebration that includes arts, music, special presentations and food in a section of the city's downtown region called 18b, The Las Vegas Arts District. The festival extends into the Fremont East Entertainment District as well.
