Biography

Dr. Weinian Shou received his Bachelor of science in Wuhan University, majoring Cell Biology, Master of Science and PhD degrees from the Shanghai Institute of Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Shou subsequently went to the Department of Molecular Genetics, MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, for his postdoctoral research training in studying Xenopus early development and pattern formation in Dr. Larry Etkin’s laboratory, and later moved to Dr. Martin Mazuk’s laboratory in the Department of Pathology, Baylor College of Medicine to continue his postdoctoral training in mouse genetics, with specific emphasis on molecular regulation of organogenesis. Dr. Shou then joined the faculty at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Baylor College of Medicine, where he studied intracellular signaling pathways that modulate cardiac ventricular wall formation and maturation. Dr. Shou is currently Professor of Pediatric, in the Research Program of Cardiovascular Developmental Biology, the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research, Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSOM). In addition, Dr. Shou holds a secondary professor appointment in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and an adjunct professor in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics and the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, IUSOM. Dr. Shou’s research has been focused on the molecular signaling pathways involved in the ventricular wall growth, maturation, and function in normal and various disease conditions by using mouse genetic manipulations.
